From your country to Cyprus, in order.

The timings depend on the country you leave. The order rarely does.

  1. First

    Settle the home side

Work out any exit tax, how to deregister and what tax follows you. Do this with a tax adviser in your country. We can recommend one if you need it.

  2. Month 1We do this

    Form your Cyprus company

We register it for tax, and for VAT and VIES when it needs them. VIES is the EU register for trading with businesses in other EU countries. It's a fixed €950, and your books open the day you order.

  3. Month 1 to 3We do this

    Register your residence

EU, EEA and Swiss citizens apply for the Yellow Slip. Everyone else applies for the Pink Slip. We file either one with you. You rent or buy the home the 60-day rule needs.

  4. Month 3 to 6

    Move the work across

Invoice through the Cyprus company and take its decisions here. Your adviser at home winds down the old company or keeps it dormant.

  5. From month 12We do this

    Tax residency and non-dom

Cyprus counts residency per calendar year, so this step usually comes last. We register it and file your non-dom claim together.

  6. Every month after

    Books and returns

On Base, we prepare your returns and you file them. On Plus, you keep the books and we file every return except the year-end accounts. On Premium, your own Sumly certified bookkeeper does all of it.

Moving, answered.

Your country's page answers the questions about leaving it.

No. Anyone, of any nationality, can own a Cyprus company from abroad. But a company is taxed where it's really run, so one managed from your home country can end up taxed there. To be Cyprus tax resident yourself, you need to live here.

There are two ways, each counted per calendar year. Spend more than 183 days here, or meet the 60-day rule. That means at least 60 days in Cyprus and no more than 183 in any other country. Since 2026, being tax resident somewhere else no longer rules you out. You also need a home here you rent or own, and a Cyprus business, job or directorship you keep to the end of the year. Running your own Cyprus company can count.

Non-dom, short for non-domiciled, means Cyprus taxes you but your legal home is elsewhere. A non-dom pays no SDC, a Cyprus tax on dividends and interest, for up to 17 years. Most people moving here qualify. GeSY, the national health contribution, still applies at 2.65% on income up to €180,000 a year.

The company takes a few weeks to register, and you can do it from abroad. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens register with the Yellow Slip within four months of arriving. Everyone else applies for the Pink Slip, and we tell you the timing for your route on the call. Tax residency counts per calendar year, so it usually comes last, around month 12. Your country's page sets out the timings from there.

Most founders form a new Cyprus company and move the work into it. Moving the old company's registration, called redomiciliation, needs lawyers in both countries, and Sumly doesn't offer it. Plan what happens to the old company with an adviser at home.

Often, for a while. Many countries charge exit tax, taxing your shares as if you'd sold them on the day you leave. Some keep taxing citizens for years. Your country's page lists what applies. Settle it with a tax adviser in your country. We can recommend one if you need it.

We form your company and apply with you for your Yellow Slip or Pink Slip, tax residency and non-dom status. Then Sumly keeps your books and prepares every Cyprus return. We don't advise on tax in your home country, and we don't move existing companies to Cyprus.
