Cyprus VAT calculator

Type a net or gross amount, pick the Cyprus VAT rate, and get the VAT and the total instantly — add VAT to a price, extract it from a gross figure, or work it backwards from the VAT amount. It is a calculator, not tax advice: which rate applies to your sale is a separate question, answered in the guide linked below.

Calculating Cyprus VAT, answered

How do I calculate VAT in Cyprus?

Multiply the net price by the VAT rate to get the VAT amount, then add it for the gross: net × rate = VAT, net + VAT = gross. To extract VAT from a gross price, divide the gross by (1 + rate) to get the net, and the difference is the VAT. The calculator above does both, for every Cyprus rate.

Which Cyprus VAT rate applies?

19% is the standard rate and applies to most goods and services. 9% is a reduced rate for certain categories (e.g. certain accommodation and passenger transport). 5% is a reduced rate for certain categories (e.g. certain foodstuffs and services). 3% is a special reduced rate for certain specific categories. 0% applies to zero-rated supplies (e.g. exports). Which one you charge depends on what you sell and to whom — this page only calculates, and our guide on how VAT works for Cyprus freelancers answers the rate question. When in doubt, check with the Tax Department, or let Sumly's VAT-aware books apply the right code automatically.

VAT-inclusive vs VAT-exclusive — what's the difference?

VAT-exclusive (net) is the price before VAT — what B2B quotes usually show. VAT-inclusive (gross) is the price with VAT added — what consumers pay. Cyprus invoices must show the net, the VAT and the gross separately per rate, which is exactly what Sumly's invoicing does automatically when you send one.

How do I calculate VAT backwards from a gross amount?

Divide the gross by one plus the rate. A gross amount at 19% divided by 1.19 gives the net; subtract to find the VAT. Use the "extract" mode above and it does the division for you — useful when a receipt only shows the total and you need the VAT for your return.
