Cyprus invoice check

1 of 11 in place

  • A sequential invoice number, missing
  • The issue date, missing
  • Your company's legal name, missing
  • Your company's address, missing
  • Your Cyprus VAT number, missing
  • Your customer's name, missing
  • Your customer's address, missing
  • A description and quantity on every line, missing
  • The net amount and VAT rate on every line, missing
  • The VAT and totals in euro, done
  • A total to pay, missing

The checklist confirms each item is filled in. It can't tell whether a VAT rate is the right one for a sale, so check the rate if you're unsure. Your draft is saved in this browser, so a refresh keeps it. Start over clears it.

What a Cyprus invoice must include.

The VAT rules list every item a VAT invoice needs. Leave one out and your customer can lose the right to reclaim the VAT on it.

  • A number in sequence

Every invoice takes the next number in your series. Gaps and duplicates are the first thing a tax inspector checks.
  • The dates

The issue date, plus the date of supply if it's different. The date of supply decides which VAT return the sale belongs in.
  • Your company

Your full legal name, address and Cyprus VAT number. A trading name can appear too, as long as the registered name is there.
  • Your customer

Their name and address. Add their VAT number when they account for the VAT, as with reverse-charge and intra-EU sales.
  • What you sold

A description and quantity on each line, with the net amount and the VAT rate. "Consulting, March 2026, 40 hours" works. "Services" does not.
  • VAT and totals in euro

The total before VAT, the VAT at each rate and the total VAT, all in euro. That holds even when you price in another currency.

Within 30 days of the date of supply, unless the Commissioner of Taxation has agreed a longer period in writing. A late invoice doesn't move the VAT to a later return. The VAT still belongs to the period of the sale, so a late invoice can mean correcting that period's return.

It depends on what you sell. For services, show no Cyprus VAT, add the customer's EU VAT number and print the words "Reverse charge". For goods sent to a VAT-registered business in another EU country, show the zero rate, the customer's EU VAT number and "Intra-Community supply, exempt". Both kinds of sale also go on your monthly VIES return. In the generator, pick the treatment on each line and it prints the wording.

Yes, in any currency your customer agrees to. The net amount on each line, the totals and the VAT must also appear in euro, at the exchange rate for the day of the sale. Show the rate on the invoice too. Pick a currency in the generator and add the rate, and the invoice shows the euro figures beside the others.

An ordinary invoice, with no VAT number and no VAT line. You must not show VAT you aren't registered to charge. Registration becomes mandatory once your taxable sales pass €15,600 over the last 12 months. Pick "Not registered" at the top of the generator and it leaves the VAT out.

Issue a credit note. It gives the original invoice's number and date, the amount you're taking off and the VAT being reversed, and it gets its own number in sequence. Never edit or delete the original. If the sale still stands at a different price, issue a new invoice after the credit note.

In one or more series, with no gaps and no duplicates. A series like 2026-001, 2026-002 works. Gaps are the first thing a tax inspector looks for, because they suggest sales that were never recorded. The generator doesn't remember your last number, so check it before you send.

At least six years. From 1 January 2026, the six years run from the tax return's filing deadline or the date you actually filed it, whichever is later. In practice that means about seven and a half years. Electronic copies are fine if they're complete and readable. Save each PDF you make here, because the generator only keeps the draft you're working on.

Next time, send it from Sumly.

Sumly numbers each invoice from your company's yearly series, emails the PDF and puts the right VAT code on every line. When the payment lands in your bank, Sumly matches it to the invoice. Try it free for 30 days.
