How it works.

Connect once. After that you ask in your AI tool and approve in Sumly.

  1. Once

Connect Sumly to your AI tool

Use an AI tool that supports MCP, such as Claude or ChatGPT, and connect it to your company in Sumly.

  2. Ask about your books

Ask a question in the chat. The AI tool reads what it needs from Sumly to answer it.

  3. Your AI tool does this

    It prepares a draft

Ask for something, such as an invoice. Your AI tool prepares it, and the draft lands in Sumly.

  4. Approve it in Sumly

Open the draft in Sumly, check it and change anything that's wrong. It's posted once you approve it.

Good to know.

  • Not tied to one AI company

MCP is an open standard. Claude, ChatGPT and other AI tools that support it can connect to Sumly.
  • No copy and paste

The AI tool reads figures from Sumly itself, so you don't type numbers into a chat by hand.
  • Delete what you don't need

Don't want a draft? Delete it in Sumly and it never reaches your books.
  • One set of books

Your AI tool, Sumly AI and everyone you invite to Sumly work from the same books.
  • Sumly AI, built in

Rather not connect anything? Sumly AI answers questions about your books inside Sumly.
  • Your team can approve

Invite a colleague or your outside accountant to Sumly. With the right role, they can approve drafts too.

Works together.

Everything in Sumly writes to the same books, so each part knows what the others did.

MCP, answered.

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It's an open standard that lets AI tools connect to other apps and work with their data. Sumly runs an MCP server, and that's what your AI tool connects to.

AI tools that support MCP, such as Claude and ChatGPT. You connect the one you already use, and it works with your Sumly books from there.

It can read them and prepare drafts. Nothing is posted until a person approves it in Sumly, the same rule Sumly AI follows. Until then, a draft doesn't touch your accounts or your reports.

AI tools can make mistakes. That's why everything your AI tool prepares arrives as a draft. You check it in Sumly and fix what's wrong before you approve it.

Sumly AI is built into Sumly, so there's nothing to connect. MCP is for people who already work in another AI tool and want their books there too. Both read your books and prepare drafts for a person to approve.

The AI tool you connect sees what it reads from your books, and its own privacy terms cover that data. Check them before you connect, as you would for any app you give your figures to.

The API is for software. Another system uses it to push sales, purchases and documents into your books, with keys you create in Sumly. MCP is for AI tools, which read your books and prepare drafts when you ask.
