Your systems, writing to your books.

Sumly's API lets your shop, your billing system or your own code send sales, purchases and documents into your books. You create the keys in Sumly.

  • Keys you create in Sumly
  • Sales, purchases and documents
  • Locked periods stay locked
  • Sales and purchases

Your shop, billing system or own code sends each sale and purchase into your books.
  • Documents

Send invoices and receipts. Sumly reads each one into a draft for you to post.
  • Keys made in Sumly

Create a key in Sumly for each system that connects, such as your shop or billing system.

Sales and purchases, with their VAT.

Each sale or purchase arrives with the customer or supplier, the amounts and the VAT. Sumly records it in the same books as everything you enter yourself.

  • Sales from your shop or billing system
  • Purchases your systems already record
  • Each one on its Cyprus VAT code
  • Counted in your VAT return

Send a document. Sumly reads it.

Invoices and receipts you send through the API land in your Sumly inbox, beside the ones you forward. Sumly AI reads each one and fills in a draft.

  • Type, supplier, number, dates, currency, totals and lines filled in
  • Known suppliers recognised
  • A person picks the accounts and posts it

One key for each system.

Every record a system sends keeps the key it came with. Open a sale and you can see which system sent it.

  • Each key writes to one company's books
  • You and your auditor can trace any figure to its source
  • Locked VAT periods stay locked

How it works.

A developer connects your system once. After that, your system sends the data and you check it in Sumly.

  1. Create a key

In Sumly, create an API key for the system that will send data.

  2. Connect your system

Your developer adds the key to the system. From then on it sends sales, purchases and documents to Sumly.

  3. Sumly does this

    Sumly sorts what arrives

Sales and purchases go into your books. Documents go to your inbox as drafts.

  4. You check and post

Post the document drafts and approve the bank matches Sumly suggests.

  5. Sumly does this

    Your VAT return, prepared

Sumly prepares the return from your books. You submit it on Base, Sumly does on Plus, and your Sumly certified bookkeeper does on Premium.

What else it does.

The API writes to the same books as the rest of Sumly, so the same rules and tools apply.

  • Sent twice, booked once

If your system sends the same sale twice, Sumly books it once. Your sales and VAT aren't counted double.
  • The same checks

Sales and purchases from the API pass the same accounting checks as the ones you enter yourself.
  • Left in your inbox

If Sumly can't read a document, it stays in your inbox until someone deals with it.
  • In your reports

Your reports show what your systems send next to everything you enter in Sumly.
  • Matched to your bank

When the money reaches your bank, Sumly suggests the match and you approve it.
  • Ask Sumly AI

Ask what your shop sold last month. Sumly AI answers from the same books your systems write to.

Works together.

Everything in Sumly writes to the same books, so each part knows what the others did.

API questions, answered.

Sales, purchases and documents such as supplier invoices and receipts. Sales and purchases go into your books with their amounts and VAT. Documents arrive in your Sumly inbox, and Sumly reads each one into a draft.

Yes, someone has to connect your system to the API once. After that, you check drafts and read your reports in Sumly as usual. Not sure what your systems can send? Book a meeting and we'll go through it with you.

You create keys in Sumly, one for each system that sends data. A key writes only to the company you created it in. Every record keeps the key that sent it, so you can see which system sent what.

The API is for your own systems to send data into your books. MCP is for AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT to read your books and prepare drafts. Nothing an AI tool prepares is posted until a person approves it in Sumly.

Yes. The API feeds the same books as the rest of Sumly, with the same Cyprus chart of accounts and VAT codes. Sumly prepares your VAT return from those books as usual.

You choose. Run them yourself, invite your own accountant into Sumly, or have your Sumly certified bookkeeper keep them on Premium.

Yes, they work beside the API. You can still forward bills to your company's Sumly email address, upload files and scan receipts with the Sumly app for iPhone and Android. All of it ends up in the same books.
