Your VAT return, filled from your books.

Every sale and purchase carries a Cyprus VAT code, and each code feeds a box of Form VAT 4. Sumly builds the return and the monthly VIES statement from those entries, ready to copy into Tax For All.

  • Monthly or quarterly returns
  • Monthly VIES statement
  • Included in every plan
  • All 13 boxes, filled in

Sumly adds up every box of Form VAT 4 from the period's entries, in euros and cents. Each box has a copy button for Tax For All.
  • Locked once created

When you create the return, Sumly saves its figures and locks the period. After that, no one can post an entry with VAT dated in that period. The figures you file stay as they are.
  • VIES, built every month

Sumly builds the statement from your invoices and credit notes to EU businesses. It has one row per customer VAT number, in whole euros, with the columns in Tax For All's order.

Track each return until it's paid.

Each return shows the VAT payable, every payment against it and the balance left. When the balance reaches zero, the return shows Settled.

  • Sumly suggests bank lines that match the balance, and you approve one
  • Approving it records the payment and the bank match in one step
  • A refund from the Tax Department works the same way, as money in
  • The VAT list shows each period as Ready to file, Awaiting payment or Settled

VIES, checked before you file.

The VIES page flags problems before you copy anything into Tax For All. It also shows the four totals the portal works out, so you can compare them.

  • Customers without an EU VAT number go on a Cannot be reported list
  • Rows flagged for a badly formed VAT number or a Cyprus customer
  • A red alert when the statement and boxes 8A and 8B of the return differ by €1 or more
  • The due date and the correction deadline, shown on the page

Fix a filed period, keep the original.

Re-open the newest return, post the fix dated inside the period and create the return again. Sumly saves it as an amendment and settles only the difference.

  • Re-opening unlocks the period and leaves your entries as they are
  • Payments you already made still count
  • Each filing keeps its dates, settled amount and box values
  • The amendment still goes into Tax For All, like the return did

How it works.

You set VAT up once. After that, every period runs the same way.

  1. Once

    Register your VAT details

Enter your VAT number, choose monthly or quarterly returns, and pick the month your first return covers. Sumly works out every period and due date from them. You can set these only once, so check them against your registration certificate.

  2. During the period

    Book sales and purchases

Each invoice and bill line gets one of 13 Cyprus VAT codes. Some codes fill in on their own, such as the zero-rated code for a customer you mark as registered for EU VAT.

  3. When the period ends

    Create the return

The return shows Ready to file. Check the boxes, then click Create VAT return to lock the period.

  4. Submit it in Tax For All

Copy each box into the portal and submit, then click Mark as filed. On Base, you do this. On Plus, Sumly submits it, and on Premium your Sumly certified bookkeeper does.

  5. Pay and settle

Pay the Tax Department by the due date. Then record the payment, or approve the bank line Sumly suggests, and the return shows Settled.

What else it does.

  • Deadlines on your dashboard

A dashboard card lists your VAT and VIES dates, overdue first. The VAT row shows what you owe, as an estimate until you create the return.
  • Reverse charge on both sides

Book a purchase on a reverse-charge code and Sumly posts the input and the output VAT at 19%. You don't need a manual journal.
  • Ask what you owe

Ask Sumly AI what VAT you owe and when. It reads your returns to answer. It can't create, file or pay one.
  • The law behind each date

Each deadline shows the law it comes from and when we last checked the date.
  • Roles for your team

Members and your own accountant can create a return. Viewers can read it but can't change it.
  • Readable after you leave

If your subscription ends, your VAT returns stay readable. Creating, filing and paying need an active subscription.

Works together.

Everything in Sumly writes to the same books, so each part knows what the others did.

VAT in Sumly, answered.

No. Sumly has no direct link to Tax For All, so a person types the figures into the portal and submits them. On Base, that's you. On Plus, Sumly submits it for you, and on Premium your Sumly certified bookkeeper does.

Partly. On an invoice to a customer marked as registered for EU VAT, the line gets the zero-rated EU code on its own. On a purchase, the code comes from the account you pick or the supplier's default. When Sumly reads a bill from your inbox, it fills in the draft but leaves the VAT codes empty. Picking each line's account fills them in, or you choose them yourself.

Yes, if it's the newest return. Re-open it, date the correction inside the period and create the return again. Sumly keeps the original filing and settles only the difference. The amended figures still go into Tax For All.

Yes, if you invoice VAT-registered businesses in other EU countries. Once you're registered for VIES you file every month, and a month with no such sales still needs a nil statement. Sales to private consumers stay off it. Mark your EU business customers as registered for EU VAT and Sumly builds the statement from their invoices.

The one on your VAT registration certificate. Most companies file quarterly, and the Tax Department puts some on monthly periods. The certificate also states the month your first return covers.

The VAT return and its payment are due on the 10th of the second month after the period ends, so a July to September quarter is due on 10 November. The VIES statement is due on the 15th of the following month. Sumly shows both dates in your deadline calendar.

Your dashboard lists the next three months of deadlines, overdue ones first. A deadline shows Due soon 14 days ahead. The VAT row moves to Done on its own once you've filed and paid the return, and you mark a VIES month done yourself.

No. VAT returns and VIES statements come with every plan. You switch VAT on by entering your registration details, and there's nothing extra to pay.
