Monthly figures are the yearly cost over 12 months.

An estimate for budgeting, with 2026 rates. It covers what the law makes the employer pay. It leaves out benefits in kind, a provident fund, bonuses, equipment and any grant or subsidy. Caps are applied over the year, so on a 13th salary near the Social Insurance ceiling the real split between months can differ.

What the employer adds.

None of these come out of your employee's pay. They're on top of the gross salary, and you pay them with the payroll each month.

  1. 01The gross for the year is the monthly salary times 12, or 13 with a 13th salary.
  2. 02If you pay the Central Holiday Fund, add 8% of the gross. The other contributions are then charged on the gross plus that 8%.
  3. 03Add your Social Insurance, GeSY and the three employer-only funds. Social Insurance, Redundancy and Training stop at the yearly ceiling; GeSY stops at its own cap; Social Cohesion has no cap.

On €3,000 a month over 12 payments, the employer pays €41,544.00 a year, or €3,462.00 a month. That's 15.4% on top of the gross: Social Insurance at 8.8%, GeSY at 2.9%, and the Redundancy, Training and Social Cohesion funds.

No law requires one. You owe it when the employment contract or a collective agreement for your sector provides for it, and many do. If you pay one, the contributions are due on it too. On €3,000 a month, a 13th salary takes the yearly cost from €41,544.00 to €45,006.00.

A state fund that pays employees' annual leave on behalf of employers that don't pay it themselves. An employer in the fund pays at least 8% of each employee's earnings into it, more for longer leave, and the Social Insurance and other contributions are then charged on the earnings plus that 8%. Many employers are exempt and pay leave as normal salary. On €3,000 a month, paying the fund makes the yearly cost €44,867.52.

Most of them. Social Insurance, Redundancy and Training stop at the insurable ceiling of €68,904 a year, about €5,742 a month over 12 payments. GeSY stops at €180,000 a year. The 2% Social Cohesion fund has no cap, so it's charged on the whole salary.

Every month, by the end of the month after the one the salary is for. The employer pays its own share and the share it deducted from the employee's pay together, along with the income tax withheld. You need to be registered as an employer with Social Insurance before the first payroll.

Anything the law doesn't make you pay: benefits in kind, a provident fund, health insurance, bonuses, equipment and office costs. It also leaves out grants or subsidies that can lower the cost of some hires. Treat the result as the floor of your budget.
