Check the conditions

You have the days for the 60-day rule.

Days alone aren't enough under the 60-day rule. Tick each condition below that holds for you in 2026. 3 are still open.

The 60-day rule's conditions

An estimate, not tax advice. It counts days with the Tax Department's rules and takes your answers on the conditions as given. The Tax Department decides residency, and may ask for proof of your days and ties. Your stays are saved in this browser only.

How the days count.

Cyprus counts days in the calendar year, 1 January to 31 December. These are the rules the counter follows.

  1. 01The day you arrive counts as a day in Cyprus.
  2. 02The day you leave counts as a day outside Cyprus.
  3. 03Arrive and leave on the same day, and it counts as one day in Cyprus.
  4. 04Leave and come back on the same day, and it counts as one day outside.

By the 183-day rule or the 60-day rule. Spend more than 183 days in Cyprus in a calendar year and you're tax resident for that year. With fewer days, the 60-day rule can still make you resident if all its conditions hold.

You're tax resident for the year if all four hold: at least 60 days in Cyprus; no more than 183 days in any other single country; a business, a job, or an office such as director in a Cyprus tax resident company at some point in the year, not ended during it; and a permanent home in Cyprus, owned or rented. From 2026, you no longer also need to show you aren't tax resident anywhere else.

More than 183, so at least 184 days in the calendar year. With exactly 183, only the 60-day rule can make you resident.

The day you arrive counts as a day in Cyprus and the day you leave as a day outside. Arrive and leave on the same day, and that's one day in Cyprus. Leave and come back on the same day, and that's one day outside.

No. Residence permits and tax residency are separate, decided by different authorities under different laws. Tax residency depends only on your days and, for the 60-day rule, your ties to Cyprus.

With a tax residency certificate from the Tax Department. Banks and foreign tax offices ask for it. Keep the evidence behind it too: travel records for your days, your lease or deeds, and your Cyprus job or company documents.
