Reverse charge is for services to a business in another EU country. Intra-EU, exempt is for goods you send to a VAT-registered business in another EU country. Both need your customer's VAT number, and the quote prints the wording for you.

A quote isn't a tax document. The VAT is charged on the invoice you send once the customer accepts. Your draft is saved in this browser, so a refresh keeps it. Start over clears it.

What a good quote spells out.

A quote isn't a tax document, so no law lists its fields. These make it clear, and they carry straight over to the invoice when the customer says yes.

  • A number to refer to

The customer quotes it back when they accept, and you can put it on the invoice.
  • How long it stands

Costs change. A valid-until date says when you'll price the job again. The generator sets 30 days, and you can change it.
  • Exactly what's included

One line for each part of the work, with quantities. Anything not listed isn't in the price.
  • The VAT, shown

The net price, the VAT rate and the total. A business customer compares net prices. A consumer looks at the total.
  • How to accept

Say how the customer accepts and when you'll invoice: a deposit up front, or the full amount on delivery. The terms box holds it.
  • The invoice comes next

A quote doesn't go in your VAT return. The sale does, on the invoice you issue for it.

A quote offers a price before the work. An invoice asks for payment for a sale, and when you're VAT-registered it's the document your customer reclaims VAT with. A quote doesn't go in your VAT return. The invoice does.

Show it if you're VAT-registered. List the net price, the VAT rate and the total, so a business customer sees the net cost and a consumer sees what they'll pay. If you're not registered, pick "Not registered" and the quote shows no VAT.

Long enough for the customer to decide, and short enough that your costs don't move. 30 days is common, and it's the generator's default. You can pick 14, 60 or 90 days, or a date of your own.

They're close. Both set out a price before the sale, and neither is a VAT invoice, so your customer can't reclaim VAT with either. Once the sale is made, issue a real invoice with the next number in your series.

Yes. Pick the currency and add an exchange rate, and the quote shows the euro amounts as well. When you invoice, use the rate for the day of the sale, so the euro figures on the invoice can differ from the quote.

When they say yes, invoice from Sumly.

Sumly numbers each invoice from your company's yearly series, emails the PDF and puts the right VAT code on every line. Try it free for 30 days.
